The International Plant Conservation Day

PUBLISHED: 29. 05. 2018

Every year on May 18th, the International Plant Conservation Day is celebrated all over the world. It has become a tradition to organize the event in the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia in order to inform people about common and rare plant species, habitats, as well as lead laboratories, workshops, experiments, and games.

The team of the LIFE “Wetlands” organized a laboratory about mires and their function in the landscape. The visitors of the laboratory had a chance to experiment with Sphagnum moss and take a guided walk in the Botanical Garden’s Mire Exposition. The exposition was ewstablished in 2006, more than 30 species from fens, transition mires, and bogs are included in the exposition.
