Ziemeļu Mires Nature Conservation Plan is Approved

On June 19, The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia approved the Nature Conservation Plan of Ziemeļu Mires Nature Reserve, developed by the team of the LIFE+ “Wetlands” project.

The nature reserve is located in the NE part of Latvia, in Ramata and Staicele municipalieties, close to the border of Estonia. The main conservation and management aim of the area is to increase the quality of mire, freshwater, forest, grassland habitats that are protected in EU and Latvia, conservation of rare plant and animal populations, as well as stabilisation of hydrological regime in the degraded areas of the mires.
